Also, I'm a huge fan of the film's main message: that sometimes, you just need to take that risk, and live your life just as it is, not as you'd always planned it to be. And for that reason, it's a very important movie.
The Devil is creating a new human being, but he has to break the rules in order to do so. He finds a way to steal a baby from a maternity hospital and takes him to a secret location, where he stays for several years. New Material takes place 3 years after Devil's Gate.
The first Devil's Gate movie was a good-not-great creation story, but certainly had some laughs, and also some solid acting from the major players. The second movie felt like a diversion, taking place in a little town in Wisconsin rather than in the Devil's Gate Ranch of the first movie. Here we have the return of Al Pacino, who played the same role in both movies, but it feels like this actor is getting a bit long in the tooth, and his performance is a bit flat and constricted. Despite that, he's still very funny and seems to be enjoying himself, so at least the performance was believable. The movie is still a solid creation story, and there are some really cool characters here, but it's slightly lacking in the laughs department. There are some really funny moments of course, but not enough to make this a comedy. I never laughed too hard during this movie, but I did have a smile on my face almost the entire time.
This is the fourth movie in the Devil's Gate Series, and it is also Robin Williams' final appearance before he died in August last year. This is also the second movie in the series that I've reviewed since the first one was released last year. It might be fun to compare the two and see just how much better the new one is, so here we go.
The CGI was really well done, and was a major factor in the success of the film. The action scenes are amazing, and the character models are top-notch. As far as I'm concerned, New Material is a must-see for any fan of the original series. 827ec27edc
